Solar Takes to the Water: Floating Solutions Consulting and Canopy Power Australia join forces to deploy the Next Generation of Floating Solar in Australia
Cleaner power. Less land. Less evaporation. And floating charging stations for the electric vessels of tomorrow.
Melbourne, Australia- November 3rd, 2026 - Australia's industries are running short of three things: affordable power, available land and water. Floating Solutions Consulting (FSC) and Canopy Power Australia have partnered to solve all three by putting solar where it doesn't compete for any of them: on the water.
The partnership pairs FSC's maritime engineering expertise with Canopy Power Australia's solar microgrid and battery storage expertise. Together they will deploy Ocean Sun's patented floating solar technology across the country.
What's new
Solar without the land grab. Ocean Sun's circular floating systems turn reservoirs, ponds, lagoons and near-shore waters into power stations. Land stays free for farming, mining, industry and communities.
Power that protects water. Floating panels cover the water surface, which helps reduce evaporation. For water-dependent operations, one installation can cut the energy bill and help conserve water.
Floating charging stations for electric vessels. The partnership is also bringing floating charging stations to Australian waters, so ferries, workboats and other electric vessels can charge on the water. These stations run on the power produced beside them.
Engineered for the marine environment. FSC is an independent, vendor-neutral maritime engineering firm, ISO 9001 certified and Climate Active certified carbon neutral. It brings marine-grade design and mooring discipline to every installation, so the systems are built to stay where they're put.
One integrated system. Canopy Power Australia combines floating solar with battery storage, and other energy assets such as rooftop, ground-mounted solar or diesel genset in a single microgrid, for reliable power day and night.
Proven where it matters
The approach has already been tested in tough conditions. At the Soneva Secret resort in the Maldives, Ocean Sun's floating solar was deployed with Canopy Power. The system is a 2 MWp floating solar plant paired with a 3-MWh battery. It is designed to supply up to 80% of the resort's electricity, replacing diesel generators. The project is estimated to save up to 1 million litres of diesel and avoid more than 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year. The project’s payback period is less than 5 years.
Built for water-dependent industry
The partnership is aimed at organisations that rely on water and want secure, affordable, low-carbon power:
Water utilities
Data centers
Mining
Factories
Agriculture
Resorts
Port operations
Water transport
"Floating solar needs two kinds of excellence: marine engineering to keep it on the water, and renewable energy engineering to make it perform. Together with Floating Solutions Consulting, we bring both, so our clients get a best-in-class solution and a project delivered with confidence. We couldn't be more excited."
– Mahasti Motazedi, Managing Director, Canopy Power Australia
"Floating solar presents a compelling opportunity to expand renewable energy generation without competing for scarce land resources. We're looking forward to working with Canopy Power to combine their technology and project delivery experience with FSC's expertise in floating infrastructure, helping clients develop practical and commercially viable solutions across the Asia-Pacific region."
– Alex Mosnier, Director, Floating Solutions Consulting
